Why do intending parents think it’s appropriate to ask a DCP whether they should have a DC child? Do they not understand how VERY triggering this can be for a DCP?
Many late discovery DCP would not wish being donor conceived on anyone:
- the risk of inheriting an unknown genetic disease and thus not knowing what you are dealing with
- discovering and navigating that you are part of a large sibling pods
- the risk of consanguinity
are just some of the potential issues that DCP are faced with.
It’s not just about the lies and secrecy that DCP can be subject too. It’s the lifespan impact of being donor conceived and the intergenerational impact on their intergenerationally DC children and grandchildren.
